Project Overview & Client

Art Space is a web application for a local business to help them connect with their customers. The client is called “Art Space” and their primary goal is to create an online community for local artists through their website to share and promote their work.

Goal

Art Space primary goal is to create a successful online community of artists, providing them with a space to promote local and underrated artists from Mauritius. This way they get visibility and are encouraged to share their creativity and passion as well as being able to sell their work through the website.

Target Audience

Art Space target market generally included art enthusiasts who are looking for new artworks and love the creative world. The market segmentation consists of:

  1. Young Artist / Freelancer
  2. Entrepreneur / Small Business Owner
  3. Art lover / Enthusiast

UX Research | Methods

The UX research was conducted via surveys and interviews to be able to understand the user goals a bit better to make the app successful and usable.

Interviews

The interviews were conducted via video conferencing with the target audience which consisted of 4 interviewees. They were asked 7 qualitative questions to deepen our understanding of the user goals as well as identifying the audience psychographics.

Through the interview, we were able to identify that the age range of potential users varied between 22–41. The interviewees were either interested in art or does art themselves in many forms from traditional painting to digital and photography. As for their personality, they all seemed really curious about the website as well as excited for such a project.

Surveys

The survey was conducted via Google Forms and sent to 7 respondents using 12 quantitative questions. This research method was used to identify the user group’s demographics and psychographics.

Online Survey Results

From this group, it was determined that in average the final age range of our targeted audience is 20–41. Regarding the gender of the user group, there are more females than males with 57.1 % being females and 42.9 % being males. The target audience is also in majority either employed or a student with only 1% being unemployed. As for the religious backgrounds, most of the users don’t have a religion, 49.2 % to be exact.

User group demographics:

While conducting the “face to face” interviews and found out that the age range of potential users varied between 22–41. Results from the survey suggests that in average the final age range of our targeted user group is 20–41. Regarding the gender of the user group, there are more females than males with 57.1 % being females and 42.9 % being males. The target audience is also in majority either employed or a student with only 1% being unemployed. As for the religious backgrounds, most of the users don’t have a religion, 49.2 % to be exact. In second comes Christianity with 28.6% and in 3rd and 4th Islam and Hinduism representing 14 % of the user group.

After interviewing the target audience, all of them are either interested in art or does art themselves in many forms from traditional painting to digital and photography. As for their personality, they all seemed really curious about the website as well as excited for such a project
